MATCHES

We have a great variety of matches to shoot at Bairnsdale Pistol Club.

AIR PISTOL

* Shot indoors over 10 metres.

* 60 shots for Men 40 for Women and Juniors.

* Quiet and Gentle - No loud "Bangs" and almost no recoil.

* An excellent way of learning and maintainingthe fundamentals of pistol shooting - whether an 'old' or a 'new' shooter.

* Cheap- A 500 pellet pack is less than $10 and will last over 7 matches!


STANDARD PISTOL

* Shot outdoors in a covered range over 25 metres.

* Shot with standard .22 cal.rimfire ammunition.

* 60 shots in 5-shot series on turning tagets. This means the targets turn andface the shooter for a specified amount of time before turning away.

* Series 1-4 "Precision" -five shots in 150 seconds (total of 20 shots)

* Series 5-8 "20 second" - five shots in20 seconds (total of 20 shots)

* Series 9-12 "10 second" - five shots in 10 seconds (total of 20 shots)

* Low recoil and noise (EAR and EYE protection MUST be worn).

* Cheap-3packs of 50cost about $10 in totaland will last2 matches.


CENTRE FIRE / SPORTS PISTOL

* Shot outdoors in a covered range over 25 metres.

* Shot with .32cal. or greater centrefire pistols OR .22cal. rimfirepistols.

* 60 shots in 5 shot series on turning tagets. This means the targets turn andface the shooter for a specified amount of time before turning away.

* Series 1-6 "Precision Stage" five shots in 150 seconds (30 shots total).

* Series 7-12 "Rapid Fire Stage"one shot in 3 seconds with 7 seconds between shots (30 shots total).


RAPID FIRE MATCH

* Shot outdoors in a covered range over 25 metres.

* Shot with .22 rimfire calibre pistols.

* 60 shots in 5 shot series on turning tagets. This means the targets turn andface the shooter for a specified amount of time before turning away.

* Series 1-2 One shot on each of five targets within8 seconds.

* Series 3-4 One shot on each of five targets within6 seconds.

* Series5-6 One shot on each of five targets within4 seconds.

* Series7-12 Repeat Sequence for series 1-6.


SINGLE ACTION - AKA COWBOY OR WESTERN ACTION

* Shot with single-action pistols, rifles, and shotguns (ie these must be recocked for each shot).

* Uses Pre-1900 original or replica firearms to bring back "The Good Old Days".

* Combination match using 1 or 2 pistols, a lever-action Rifle and a side-by-side shotgun.

* A race against the clock in a pre selected sequence of shots. For example a matchcould involve shooting five pistol shots from left to right on five targets; ten rifle shots from right to left on five (more distant)targets; and finishing with two shotguns shots at two othertargets. Not nearly as complicated as it sounds, and GREAT FUN!

* Members can choose to dress up in "western" style clothing and to take on a character such as "Calamity Jane" or "Bogong Jack".

* We had a dedicated Single Action Range complet with Saloon, Bank, Sheriff's Office and Livery Stable.

This is our fastest growing discipline, with men and women competing against each other.


FREE PISTOL

* Shot outdoors in a covered range over50 metres.

* Shot with .22 rimfire calibre pistols.

* 60 Precision shots in over an hour.


BLACK POWDER

* Shot over 25 metres.

* Shot with "Cap and Ball" Pistols. ie no cartridges like other pistols. Each chamber in the revolver is loaded with "Black Powder" and a lead ball. A percussion cap is then fitted that ignites the powder.

* Spectacular match - with lots of sparks and smoke.

* There is a variety of specific matches for this style of shooting.
